Every year, a new crop of great books are released that are perfect beach reading – light, fun and intriguing. Here are a few of our picks for the top beach books for this summer:

This book by Ofir Touche Gafla combines all the most successful elements of summer beach books, including adventure, fantasy, mystery and romance. It follows the story of a man who is grief-stricken after his wife dies and so commits suicide. He then explores The Other World to find his wife and to learn more about the interconnectedness between the living and the dead.
Mary Kay Andrews bring us this book about love and revenge. After discovering that her husband is cheating on her, Grace drives his sports car into the swimming pool. However, he then locks her out of their home, checking accounts and even the lifestyle blog that she created. She eventually learns how to rebuild her life and find love again through court-mandated divorce therapy sessions. There is also an element of intrigue as the group tries to get to the bottom of the fishy arrangement behind the court-mandated sessions.

This follow-up to Apologize! Apologize! By Elizabeth Kelly follows the struggles of a 12-year-old girl who has witnessed a crime but keeps silent about it, ultimately learning the price of her silence. There’s political intrigue, mystery and family drama set against a coming-of-age tale.

What better beach book than one that is set over a series of summers? This tale by Beatriz Williams begins in the 30s when Lily has to confront the arrival of her former best friend and former fiancé – now married to each other – in her seaside town. Lily and her best friend begin a tenuous relationship, but Lily soon finds herself drawn back to her old fiancé and the love they shared. Long-held secrets emerge and threaten to destroy it all or to bring them all together.
Psychic twin sisters are the protagonists of this book by Curtis Sittenfeld. One twin has embraced her gift and serves as a psychic medium, while the other tries to hide her abilities and live a relatively “normal” life. Unfortunately, the more outspoken twin predicts a series of major earthquakes, and that forces them both to confront their feelings about their gifts and their relationship.
