Cozy Review: Murder She Barked by Krista Davis

Let’s take a ride up Wagtail Mountain to the Sugar Maple Inn. Don’t worry about leaving the pets home, this Inn is just for them. You can choose to have them eat dog food or better yet, a real food version of what you’re eating. Wagtail is a cozy town where pets are catered too and vehicles are not allowed on the streets. You’ll find yourself driving a golf cart (electric), so it’s very quiet in this town.

Holly Miller's life has gone to the dogs. She has no job, her boyfriend's former flame is sniffing around, and a scruffy but loveable Jack Russell Terrier is scattering crumbs all over her borrowed car. Just when she thought things couldn't get worse, a troubling phone call about her grandmother sends her rushing home to the family inn on Wagtail Mountain.

The staff—and a frisky Calico kitten named Twinkletoes—adopts Holly and her new dog on arrival. But someone in this friendly town is bad to the bone. One of the employees at the inn has been killed in a hit-and-run accident—which is looking anything but accidental. Now Holly and her furry companions will have to nose out the murderer before someone else gets muzzled.

I began reading this book after I had been somewhat in a slump and not having had a lot of time for reading. This was the perfect book to grab in such a situation. I was immediately taken into the story and hooked until the end. The holidays are such a hard time to be reading when you want to when so many other things can take precedence.

Characters: The author does a wonderful job of creating such impressionable characters. Holly has found herself back at her aunt’s Inn where she spent most of her summers. Realizing she hasn’t been there for quite a long time, she ends up enjoying the new town of Wagtail.

Location and Setting: I loved the idea of the new town. Catering to animal lovers and taking away vehicles from the downtown. Definitely a slower paced type of life. The description of Wagtail and mountainous area sound beautiful. What a resort place to visit.

Crime: Very clever and quite woven. I really wracked my brain to come up with even a possible solution. Holly was a perfect sleuth, even though she was somewhat at a disadvantage because she was not familiar with all the towns people. However, I also think this helped her have an advantage. Loved the pink sleeping bag!!

Romance: Holly finds herself in a predicament with her romance and relationships all the way around. I can’t wait to read the next book of this series!!
