In a quaint brownstone building in Chicago, Illinois, was Josie’s dream button shop. Having quit her job and spent some savings, she is enjoying what is hers. However, arriving at the shop one morning, she finds buttons scattered everywhere and the place overturned. Also on this same day she has a famous visitor, actress Kate Franciscus, arriving in just a short time. Quickly putting things in order, she meets with the famous actress and her many assistants.
Josie is then to have another meeting with Kate, without the assistants, and upon returning from getting a quick bite to eat, discovers Kate murdered in her shop. Josie later finds a lone button in her shop that is not hers, that leads her through to solve the crime.

This was a mystery that was woven very well. I did not have a clue when it came to finding who who did it. A great story!
I just loved Josie’s ex-husband. He definitely brought laughs to the story, even if he was a little annoying. Very persistent he was.
My other favorite character was Stan, Josie’s neighbor. Great to have someone close to support and worry about you like he did. He also was a great chauffeur.
Location and Setting:
The little niche of stores were a perfect setting for the button shop. In an older building, but on a close knit street. We didn’t get to know a lot about the other shopkeepers, but maybe as the series goes on.
As I said in my summary, this story was told very well. The burglaries, along with the murder, definitely had me guessing. Josie made a great sleuth and I liked how Nevin asked for her help. Definitely different from most cozies. However, at one point, he wasn’t sure if she should be involved any more.
What started out rocky from previous date prior to the story in the book, I think there may be something in the future for Nevin and Josie.
