Send in the Clowns by Julie Mulhern

Title: Send in the Clowns
Series: The Country Club Murders #4
Author: Julie Mulhern
Publish Date: October 25, 2016
Publisher: Henery Press
Source: Netgalley/Book Tour

About the Book:
Haunted houses are scary enough without knife-wielding clowns. Especially murderous knife-wielding clowns. So thinks Ellison Russell, single mother, artist, and reluctant sleuth.
Now death wears a red nose and Ellison is up to the blood-stained collar of her new trench coat in costumes, caffeine, and possible killers. Who stabbed Brooks Harney? And why? Money? Jealousy? Drugs?
With Mother meddling, her father furious, and her date dragged downtown for questioning, turns out Ellison's only confidante is Mr. Coffee.

My Review:
My first book in this series, even though it’s book #4. I enjoy Henery Press and their associated authors and so I offered to help with this book tour by providing a review.

Immediately I was hooked, and maybe a little freaked out with the clowns, but also not feeling like I had started in the middle of the story. I am amazed when authors can write a stand alone, but part of a series, book. You are aware that you’re missing parts of back story, but nothing of the main story. I’m excited to go back and catch up.

I love Ellison and her life issues she is facing in this issue. She seems like someone who has been through quite a lot recently, but is strong and just keeps pushing her way through. She is one tough cookie! Caught between two men, her father, and raising her children, she is someone to identify with as a single lady.

The mystery and story was a little darker than most cozies that I read, but I enjoyed the story. I’m excited to go back to the prior installments and catch up on specific tidbits of Ellie’s story. I also love the covers and title names. The mystery was woven very well and I definitely didn’t see this one coming.

About The Author – Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders. She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean–and she’s got an active imagination. Truth is–she’s an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.
